CODE OF CONDUCT

1. Introduction

This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behaviour expected from all members, guests, and representatives of Tongham Bowling Club, both on and off the green. It applies to all forms of interaction, including online communication and social media.

By becoming a member of Tongham Bowling Club, you agree to uphold these values and represent the club in a respectful, inclusive, and positive manner.

2. General Behaviour

All members and visitors must:

  • Treat each other with respect, courtesy, and fairness.
  • Promote a welcoming and inclusive environment for people of all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Avoid aggressive, threatening, abusive, or discriminatory behaviour or language.
  • Follow the rules and etiquette of the game of bowls.
  • Respect the decisions of umpires, officials, and the committee.
  • Comply with all club policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

3. On the Green

Members should:

  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times.
  • Be punctual for matches and practice sessions.
  • Wear appropriate footwear and club-approved attire.
  • Respect the playing surface, equipment, and facilities.
  • Avoid disruptive behaviour that affects other players’ enjoyment.

4. Club Premises and Facilities

All members and visitors are expected to:

  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and friendly environment.
  • Take care of club property and report any damage or concerns to a committee member.
  • Refrain from being under the influence of illegal drugs while at the club.
  • Respect the rights and comfort of others using the club, including during social functions.

  • 5. Social Media Use
  • This applies to all social platforms, including Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, online forums, blogs, and messaging groups.

    Members must:

  • Use social media responsibly and respectfully when discussing club matters or representing the club.
  • Not post content that is abusive, offensive, defamatory, discriminatory, or likely to bring the club into disrepute.
  • Refrain from sharing confidential, private, or sensitive information about members, matches, or the club’s internal affairs.
  • Not use the club’s name or logo without permission when creating unofficial pages or groups.
  • Seek committee approval before posting official announcements or promotional material on behalf of the club.
  • Breach of this policy may result in disciplinary action, including removal of posts, suspension, or termination of membership.

  • 6. Disciplinary Procedures

    Any breach of this Code of Conduct will be taken seriously. Complaints should be directed to the Club Secretary or Committee in writing.

    Minor Misconduct – 

                Breach of club’s code of conduct

                Rude language or hand gestures

                Unsporting behaviour on the green

    Moderate misconduct

                Disruptive behaviour

  •             Abusive messaging / Social media

                Bullying and harassment

    Serious Misconduct

  •             Discrimination
  •             Violence against a person or property
  •             Sexual harassment
  •             Incidents that involve the police

The Committee will investigate and take appropriate action, which may include:

  • Informal resolution letter
  • Mediation
  • Formal written warning
  • Suspension from club activities
  • Termination of membership
  • 7. Acknowledgement

    By joining Tongham Bowling Club, you agree to abide by this Code of Conduct and uphold the values and spirit of the game.
